Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has issued a hands off warning to Premier League sides tracking star duo Davy Klaassen and Joel Veltman.
Scouts from the various clubs have been assessing the starlets over the course of the past few months, with raids for their signatures expected to be launched when the next transfer window opens.
But Overmars – a former Arsenal hero – claims that Veltman, a 22-year-old centre-back, and Klaassen, a 20-year-old attacking midfielder, are going nowhere for the foreseeable future:
“We are constantly working on a puzzle and every time you have it almost complete, it can fall apart, because a piece is snapped up.” He is quoted by The Express.
“But I will lie in front of the gate when they come for Joel Veltman or Davy Klaassen.
“I love Ajax being attractive for a transfer, but these guys are not leaving here.”
This may not deter the big hitters, who could still make serious offers later this year.
Ajax are famed for their production of top young players, Wesley Sneijder and Rafael van der Vaart just two top names to have graduated from the set-up in recent times.
