Allan McGregor has been named in the Scotland squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Macedonia next month.

The 30-year-old’s inclusion is a boost to the Tartan Army; the Beskitas stopper was a doubt after suffering a groin injury against Australia earlier in the month.

Scott Brown, though, misses out due to a hip problem, despite playing an integral role in Celtic’s Champions League qualification on Wednesday.

Scotland manager Craig Levein discussed the squad yesterday: “Scott Brown is fairly straightforward - he is injured.

“He took an injection to play last night and he’s visiting a specialist today to resolve the issues he has. I had a good chat with him last night and would have liked him to have been in the squad.”

On McGregor’s inclusion, Levein said: “I’ve spoken to Allan and he feels a lot better and he feels he will be fit to play.”

Kris Commons was the most surprising omission, with Celtic man losing out due to the former Leicester boss favouring players who impressed against Australia.
