Atletico Madrid have made an enquiry over the availability of Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa, Express reports.

The Spanish media have claimed that Atletico boss Diego Simeone is considering a £14million offer for United’s Kagawa.

The Madrid club are in the process of rebuilding their squad after the departures of several star names, including David Villa, Diego Costa, Filipe Luis, and Thibaut Courtois.

The La Liga champions have already sealed the captures of Mario Mandzukic from Bayern Munich and Antoine Griezmann from Real Sociedad for a total of £42million.

But Simeone is still keen to bolster his squad, turning his attentions to want-away attacking midfielder Shinji Kagawa.

The Japanese was a £17million signing from Borussia Dortmund back in 2012, but has failed to impress at Old Trafford and looks set for an exit this summer.

Kagawa missed much of his first season in Manchester due to injury, but wasn’t given much of an opportunity under the management of David Moyes in his second year.

And with United’s purchase of Spain attacking midfielder Juan Mata back in January, it seems the 25-year-old will need to look elsewhere for regular playing time.
