The 35-year-old is out of contract in the summer and having already sealed their Premier League status for next season, the Hammers have started to look at new ways to freshen up their squad in the summer.

Ambrosini is thought to be looking for a two-year deal and his agent Moreno Roggi has now revealed that the east Londoners have enquired about his services, although there is also interest from elsewhere.

“There is interest from West Ham and it’s a real interest, like that of other English, German and American teams, although there have not been concrete contacts,” he said. “But, like every year, the first thing Massimo will do at the end of the season is speak with Adriano Galliani (Milan chief executive).”
