Arsenal and Roma are the clubs leading the chase to sign Auxerre starlet Paul-Georges Ntep, according to the Daily Star.
Ntep has been attracting attention from a host of clubs across Europe after some impressive performances in Ligue 1.
Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham are also thought to be monitoring the France Under-21 international.
But according to sources in France, it is Premier League leaders Arsenal and Serie A giants Roma who are leading the chase for the young strikers signature.
Auxerre are likely to do business in January for a figure in the region of £8.5million, as financial difficulties continue to plague the club.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is believed to have been keeping a close eye on Ntep for a number of months, as he looks to add striking reinforcements in the January transfer window.
Ntep has been open about the speculation surrounding his future, and earlier in the month claimed a move to North London would be dependent on his first team opportunities.
“Arsenal is a club that trusts young players. But it would all depend on the project,” he told L’Equipe.
“If it is going to a new club to remain on the bench, what is the improvement? I don’t ask to be in the starting 11 of a big club immediately, but I could help in the not too long-term.
“If I have reached such a level now, it is because Auxerre offered me stability that allowed me to reach new levels.
“I don’t forget. Nowadays you can be a much-demanded player and tomorrow the player everyone will laugh about.”
