Senior officials at Arsenal remarkable believe that Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino would be the ideal successor to Arsene Wenger, The Daily Mail reports.

What's the word?

Following a month where the Gunners' slim chances of winning the Premier League have been crushed and a 5-1 drubbing to Bayern Munich that leaves Arsenal on the brink of another Round of 16 exit in the Champions League, there's a growing consensus that Arsene Wenger will walk this summer.

The long-serving 67-year-old sees his current deal expire at the end of the senior and majority shareholder Stan Kroenke wants Wenger to extend his stay, with a two-year deal on the table for the Frenchman. However, many other figures behind the scenes believe a change is imminent.

Arsenal will be seeking potential replacements for their long-serving boss this summer, with the club being fearful of an appointment that could see the Gunners slide like Manchester United did after losing Sir Alex Ferguson, and their ideal target will irk Tottenham Hotspur fans.

Who's the best fit?

According to The Daily Mail, senior officials believe Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino would be the ideal fit to take the Gunners forward but, rather understandably, they rate the chances of luring the Argentine across North London as extremely unlikely.

Other candidates include Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone, although some officials have reservations regarding his fiery temperament, Borussia Dortmund's Thomas Tuchel and Juventus' Massimiliano Allegri- all of whom fit the criteria of 'being in the Wenger mould'.

With Wenger one of the last managers in modern football that oversees everything at the club, The Mail adds a technical director could also be brought in amongst sweeping changes.
