Arsenal have signed David Ospina from Nice after the goalkeeper’s impressive World Cup displays for the Colombian national team, BBC reports.
The 25-year-old signed a long term contract after sealing the £3million move and is set to provide current Gunners number one Wojciech Szczesny with some competition for his spot between the sticks.
Arsene Wenger is pleased to have added reinforcements in this department by saying: “David is an excellent goalkeeper. He will add strength to our squad and we are very pleased that he will be joining us.
“He has good experience and a proven record of performing.”
He also added that he believes his new signing will have the chance to prove himself during next month’s Emirates Cup, where he could be given the chance to beat Szczesny for a starting berth.
Wenger added: “I’ve known him for a long time because he played for Nice – he went there a few years ago and slowly became a very important player for them.
“Hugo Lloris played for Nice before he moved to Lyon. After he moved, they played Ospina. He had a big impact straight away and Lloris was not an easy player to replace.”
