Arsenal look to reignite their interest in Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, after making their intentions to move for the striker publicly known for quite some time, Telegraph reports.
Arsene Wenger hasn’t been able to strike a deal in his many attempts to lure the striker to the Emirates, but believes this time he could come out on top after rumours from the Madrid camp state that they might allow Benzema to leave.
With only one more year remaining on his contract, the Spanish giants are currently debating whether to extend his contract or let him move for a hefty £30-million fee.
The decision will be largely based on Carlo Ancelotti’s ability to bring in another top class striker in place of the Frenchman, with Liverpool’s Luis Suarez high on the shopping list.
A formal offer for the player could be in the books after the Champions League final, due to the fact that the club don’t want to negotiate any further with the looming cup fixture just about to take place.
Should Benzema decide to stay, Wenger is also monitoring the likes of Bayern Munich’s Mario Mandzukic, Diego Costa, and Josip Drmic, but was unable to prevent the latter two from moving to Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen respectively.
