Arsenal are considering a shock move to sign Queens Park Rangers target Jermain Defoe with the striker in England to negotiate his return to English Premier League football, Metro reports.
The former Tottenham Hotspur star only joined Toronto FC in January but is said to be closing in on an exit after the club sacked their manager Ryan Nelsen.
Defoe is now said to be in England in order to complete a deal with QPR, but Arsene Wenger now looks to steal the 31-year-old English attacker and bring him to the Emirates.
The Gunners have been facing a striker crisis throughout the summer window and although Wenger has stated his intentions to not need another front man, the recent injury to Olivier Giroud may have shifted his opinions.
Giroud faces up to four months on the sidelines with January looking to be a realistic return date as the French boss is also considering a move to sign high profile target Radamel Falcao.
