Lokomotiv Moscow are prepared to battle Arsenal in the race to sign Newcastle star Cheick Tiote, Daily Star reports.
Tiote is reportedly looking to end his time at St.Jame’s Park by making a move to a Champions League side, with Arsenal firmly interested in the Ivorian international.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to bring in an anchorman to sit in front of his back-four, and Tiote is the perfect player for the position.
The London club have been chasing Real Madrid ace Sami Khedira and Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho all summer, but have instead turned their attentions to Tiote as an adequate alternative.
Arsenal are not the only club keen to sign the 28-year-old, with Lokomotiv Moscow already having a bid for Tiote rejected by Newcastle who value the midfielder at £8million.
The Russian outfit are expected to make a bigger offer sometime soon, which could force Arsenal into quicker action.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew however is desperate to keep his star player, who he is hoping will form a great partnership with summer signing Siem de Jong in midfield.
