Arsenal are hoping to make a summer swoop for Maxime Gonalons, after scouts were sent to observe the player last weekend.
Gonalons, 23 was watched by the Gunners during the game against Bordeaux on Sunday and will be likely to be watched in Lyon’s Europa League game against Spurs. The defensive midfielder is a strapping lad at 6ft 2 and is best known for his aerial challenges and ball interception skills.
Arsenal have been in the market for a defensive midfielder for a while now and if Gonalons continues to impress he could be top of Arsenal’s shopping list for the summer, according to The Daily Mail.
The North Londoners have have also been in Italy watching Angelo Ogbonna, a 24 year old who plays for Torino.
Arsenal have had their eye on Ogbonna since last season but if they want to sign him in the summer they face competition as Man United are also watching the young star.
Ogbonna plays as a centre back but he plays just as comfortably in the left-back role and is one of the most highly rated youngsters in Italy at the moment, with chairman Urbano Cairo accepting that he might lose the star this summer.
