Former Arsenal defender Nigel Winerburn has dismissed talk of Arsenal challenging for the title this season, as reported by talkSPORT.

The Gunners were thrashed at Chelsea yesterday and despite being top of the table at Christmas, Arsenal are now focussing on a top four place.

Arsene Wenger celebrated 1000 games in charge of the North London side this week, however his team was not up to standards despite issues with the referee.

Winterburn knows that Arsenal were in with a shout of a title push this season however recent months have proved that it was not to last.

“This season I wanted to see them challenge for the title,” Winterburn said

“They have done that to a certain extent but it looks like that may be coming to an end.

“The way Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea are going I can’t see any way back for Arsenal.”

Arsenal face Manchester City next week and are now facing a battle to finish in the Champions League.
