Arsenal are looking to sign Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas before the World Cup ends this summer, Daily Mail reports.
Arsene Wenger has been in the transfer market for a new goalkeeper to challenge number-one Wojciech Szczesny after Lukasz Fabianki left for Swansea on a free transfer.
And according to Spanish paper AS, it seems that Arsenal have made Real’s Iker Casillas their top target, who has been rotated with Diego Lopez by manager Carlo Ancelotti.
The Spaniard currently has three years left on his Madrid contract but with his wages decreasing every year, Casillas could be considering alternative options.
Wenger is hoping that Casillas’ Spanish team-mate Santi Cazorla as well as former Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil can persuade the Champions League winner to make the move to North London.
Casillas will be leading Spain in their defence of the World Cup, aiming to become the first team since Brazil from 1958-1962 to win consecutive championships.
Arsenal recently had a £6million bid for Cardiff City’s David Marshall rejected, with the Welsh club demanding £15million for the Scottish shot-stopper.
