Arsenal players and members of the backroom staff are convinced Arsene Wenger will sign a two-year extension to stay at the club, The Times reports.

What's the word?

Arsene Wenger is under intense pressure at Arsenal as he enters the final months of his current deal, with a large section of the fans and the media calling for him to walk away this summer- following an awful string of results that includes a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Bayern Munich.

Arsenal face another exit from the Round of 16 in the Champions League and also saw any chance of a late push for the Premier League title ended by back-to-back defeats against Watford and Chelsea, which has once again shown a lack of progress.

With Wenger's contract due to expire at the end of the season, many feel it's the ideal time for the Frenchman to call time on his 21-year association with the Gunners but he has a two-year deal on the table, which figures at the club expect him to sign.

Should he stay?

Wenger's future at Arsenal should hinge on who the club can get in as a replacement, as it would be worth seeing Wenger walk to bring in someone like Diego Simeone or Massimiliano Allegri but swapping him for someone like Eddie Howe may not be a good idea.

A crucial factor though will be the attitude of the fans in the final months of the season and Arsenal's performances, as Wenger would certainly walk if he failed to land a top-four spot. However, securing another season in the Champions League and winning the FA Cup may be enough for him to stay.

Fans will probably not be appeased by the news though as it seems like the ideal time to change and there's likely to be  large backlash if he extends his spell.
