Arsenal are hoping to sign long-term target Lars Bender from Bayer Leverkusen, Mirror reports.
The Gunners are on the verge of signing Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona and Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle, but are not done yet with Arsene Wenger hoping to lure over the German midfielder.
Wenger has been targeting Bender for over a year and could finally land the 25-year-old with a £15million bid.
The Bundesliga side are hesitant in selling their star player but a pay-rise and another opportunity to play in the Champions League may be too good an offer to turn down.
Arsenal have been keen on signing a holding midfielder in recent weeks having expressed their interest in Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin and Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira, but Bender is their first choice target.
Wenger is infamously known as not being a fan of ‘big money signings’ but with last season’s record breaking purchase of Mesut Ozil, the Frenchman seems to have changed his ways after looking set to complete a combined £35million double swoop for Sanchez and Debuchy.
And the Emirates club are not done there, as they target a back-up goalkeeper after Lukasz Fabianki signed for Swansea on a free transfer.
