Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski who joined his former teammates at Cologne in celebration after their recent promotion to the Bundesliga has hinted at a possible move back to his childhood club, Mirror reveals.

Podolski who still has two years left on his current contract joined Cologne as a 10-year old boy so his relationship with the club was always going to be a very special one.

The German player only recently expressed his desire to leave the Gunners as he was unhappy with his role as a substitute this season has suddenly stepped up his game, scoring four goals in his last two Premier League games.

He said: “The Bundesliga is one of the best leagues in the world and therefore in principle always interesting.

“In the Bundesliga, my thoughts naturally turn first to Cologne. That is much more than a club for me, this is my home.

“Maybe I’ll play again with them, this is for me always an option and matter of the heart.

“I would also like to meet my Arsenal contract. But as I said, yes, you never know in football.

“Sometimes everything happens very quickly.”
