Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has claimed that he and his Gunners team mates are only focussed on their FA Cup meeting with Blackburn Rovers this weekend.
The German defender will no doubt be excited about squaring up to his compatriots on Tuesday night as Arsenal host Bayern Munich in their Champions League last 16 first leg.
However the lanky stopper is solely focused on knocking Blackburn out of the FA Cup today at the Emirates and claims that Bayern can wait until after that.
Many Gunners fans see the FA Cup as a great opportunity to finally win another trophy this season but with the big game in midweek, boss Arsene Wenger may ring the changes for the visit of Championship improvers Blackburn.
Bayern Munich are the clear favourites to beat Arsenal over two legs and so an FA Cup win today may be a huge result for Wenger and the team.
“First, we still have an important cup game on Saturday — we absolutely want to advance in the FA Cup,” Mertesacker told The Sun.
“That is why the preparations for Bayern are not that intense yet.”
