Arsenal and Atletico Madrid are in advanced talks over a potential move to bring Javier Manquillo to the Emirates, Metro reports.
The versatile defender is mainly deployed as a right back, but can also play as a left back or even further up the field in a more midfield role.
He was believed to be on the verge of a switch to French side Marseille but the potential move seemed to have broken down after learning of the interest from the Gunners.
The 2o-year-old looks set to join new arrival Alexis Sanchez on a season long loan deal, but could mean current right back Carl Jenkinson’s role in the squad could be under heavy threat.
However, Newcastle could rescue Jenkinson’s plea for first team football by bringing him over to St James Park in place of Mathieu Debuchy, who looks set to travel in the opposite direction.
Manquillo is seen as a very pacey full back with great tackling ability, but is yet to find a way to break into the La Liga winning side’s first team, making only seven appearances in the previous season.
