Arsenal Boss Arsene Wenger sent a senior scout to watch Wanyama play on Tuesday night when Celtic took on Juventus in the Champions League.

Arsenal have been interested in the defensive midfielder for some time now and after losing out on Etienne Capoue on transfer deadline day, they will be considering Wanayama as a possible alternative. It is thought that his performance in Tueday’s game against the Italian will ultimately cast the deciding vote on whether Steve Rowley and Arsene Wenger make a move for the player in the summer according to The Mail

Wanyama and Capoue are amongst a few defensive midfielder’s being watched by Arsene, another is Momo Diame. Wenger is desperate for a defensive midfielder as Diaby cannot be relied on full-time due to fitness issues.

Elsewhere Arsenal flop Andre Santos became the latest player to leave to North London club this week, he joined Brazilian club Gremio on loan until the end of the season. Wenger doesn’t want Santos anymore due to the fact that the Brazilian hasn’t shown any of his promised form in the last 2 years and was hoping that this loan period would result in a sale.

Santos however still insists that he has a future at Arsenal and intends on returning to Arsenal to see out the remaining 2 years of his contract.

‘The idea is to go there, play well and be able to come back strong. Do I  have a future at the club? For sure.’

Santos is just one of many Arsenal players that are still on £50,000 plus salaries despite not being in the first team or having regular games in two years. He joins Chamakh, Bendnter, Squallaci, Denilson and Arsharvin.
