Borussia Dortmund have denied that centre back Mats Hummels is set to join Barcelona in the January transfer window, as reported by Sky Sports.
Reports had surfaced this week that the Catalan club had agreed a £30million deal with Dortmund to take their sought after defender to the Nou Camp on January 1.
Arsenal have been long term admirers of the German international and they were hoping to partner the 24 year old with fellow countryman Per Mertesacker at the heart of their defence.
The Gunners will be buoyed to hear that Dortmund are yet to agree terms with Barcelona, however the North London club may need to make their move as it will be tough for Hummels to turn down a move to the East coast of Spain.
“About 99.9 per cent of all professionals would want to listen to an enquiry from a club the size of Barcelona,” Dortmund General manager Michael Zorc told Ruhr Nachrichten.
“But it’s pure nonsense that we have granted permission (for a summer transfer).”
