Atletico Madrid have rejected a £9million Arsenal offer for right-back Juanfran, Mirror reports.
The Lia-Liga champions are reluctant to sell the Spanish defender, who Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes to be the ideal candidate to replace departing Gunners right-back Bacary Sagna.
Juanfran had been a target for Wenger since last summer, and is trying again to lure the 29-year-old to the Emirates.
The Spaniard was very impressive last season, playing a pivotal role in Atletico Madrid’s La-Liga triumph and getting to the UEFA Champions League final.
However it is reported that Juanfran is happy at the Vincent Calderon, forcing the Gunners to look elsewhere in the transfer market.
The London club are watching Schalke and Japanese international right-back Atsuto Uchida as well as Toulouse defender Serge Aurier.
Arsenal look to have begun talks for Aurier last week, who will feature for the Cameroon international team in this summer’s World Cup.
Wenger also has the choice of promoting Carl Jenkinson to first choice, but it is expected the Gunners will splash the cash before the season kicks off in August.
