Arsenal have been hit with another transfer blow as Roma striker Mattia Destro’s agent states his client will not leave this summer, Express reports.
The Italian international had a good season for the Roman club, scoring 13 goals in only 20 appearances.
And Destro’s performances have put many top clubs around Europe on alert, with Arsenal reportedly very interested in bringing the striker to England once the transfer window reopens in June.
Arsenal’s number one target is Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, but with contract negotiations ongoing between Benzema and the Madrid hierarchy, it is likely the Gunners will miss out on their target.
Arsene Wenger is looking to add some much needed competition for lone striker Olivier Giroud and sees Destro’s age and ability perfect to challenge for a starting role.
But the 23-year-old’s agent is adamant the former Siena man wants to continue playing in the Italian Serie A.
“When a player is sought after by other teams it is always a pleasure,” his agent said.
“This does not mean though that he will leave. Mattia wants to stay in Rome and be a leader for the Giallorossi.”
Destro is also part of the Italy squad for this year’s World Cup in Brazil.
