Arsenal are reluctant to pay Germany star Sami Khedira £150,000-a-week in order to bring him to the Emirates, Mirror reports.
The Gunners chase for Khedira has hit a major snag after the World Cup champion insisted on becoming Arsenal’s highest paid player.
Wenger was looking to make the Real Madrid midfielder his second major summer signing after securing the services of £33million man Alexis Sanchez.
However it is clear that the London club will not pay Khedira’s high demands, that if met will make him earn £20,000-a-week more than both Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.
The 27-year-old only has one year remaining on his Real Madrid contract and Arsenal’s reluctance to pay his desired salary could open the doors for Chelsea, who are also interested in Khedira.
Meanwhile Arsenal are close to securing the signing of two right-backs in Newcastle’s Mathieu Debuchy and Atletico Madrid’s Javier Manquillo.
Debuchy has confirmed he will be playing at the Emirates this coming season, with the move waiting on Newcastle to replace the Frenchman with Feyenoord’s Daryl Janmaat.
