Bundesliga expert Raphael Honigstein has delivered a damning assessment of the Arsenal side that were trounced 5-1 by Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening, claiming their worse than a ten-man Shakhtar Donetsk side that were beaten 7-0 in March 2015.

The Gunners face an uphill battle in the second-leg, with Arsene Wenger's side looking set for yet another Round of 16 exit, and the performance from the North London outfit at the Allianz Arena was abysmal.

Allowing Arjen Robben an easy passage for the opening goal, the Gunners seemed to have saved some grace as they entered half-time level- but a complete collapse after the interval sealed another dark night for Arsenal in Europe.

Remarkable, Raphael Honigstein has slammed the Gunners and stated they were worse than Shakhtar and FC Basel, both of whom were beaten 7-0 by the Bavarians in 2015 and 2012 respectively.

‘It was all about Arsenal being horrifically bad. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a knockout tie at this stadium with an opposition so inept. Even Shakhtar Donetsk and Basel who both lost 7-0 weren’t quite as disorganised as that Arsenal team.’

To be fair, it's easy to see where these comments stem from as Bayern were in blistering form in their victories over Basel and Shakhtar, whereas Arsenal's defeat came largely down to their own failures rather than Bayern's brilliance.
