Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has denied speculation linking his side with a move for Hamburg starlet Hakan Calhanoglu, according to talkSPORT.

The 19-year-old Turk has caught the attention of several clubs across Europe after an impressive breakthrough season in the Bundesliga, and last week the youngsters agent claimed Arsenal were set to make a formal offer in the New Year.

However, Wenger has moved to distance himself from speculation, claiming the stories linking him with a January move are “not true.”

When asked about Calhanoglu, he said: “No. All the agents will turn up with names. Many agents have good links with newspapers. The names turn up but that is not true.”

The 19-year-old has made 13 league appearances for the Bundesliga side this season, and scored four goals.

He has drawn comparisons with Mesut Ozil in Germany, and has also been linked with a move to Liverpool.

However, Hamburg have come out and said they have no intention of selling one of their prized assets in January, and will attempt to hold on to him until the summer at least.

Calhanoglu’s performances this season have been so impressive that he recently earned his first senior cap for the Turkish national team.
