Ashley Cole is set to be left out of England’s World Cup squad, according to sources at Sky Sports.
The 33-year-old has struggled for regular first team football at Chelsea this season, with Jose Mourinho preferring to play Cesar Azpilicueta in the left back role.
And that looks set to cost Cole his place on the plane to Brazil, despite him being one of the most experienced players in the England squad.
Leighton Baines has been the preferred starter for Hodgson, while Southampton youngster Luke Shaw was called up to the latest squad after an impressive season for the south coast club.
Those two look likely to be selected for the World Cup squad, meaning Cole looks set to have played his last major tournament for his country.
The full back positions have come under much scrutiny in recent weeks, with Tottenham’s Kyle Walker and Manchester United’s Phil Jones both struggling to be fit for the tournament in Brazil.
However, it is thought that Cole has already been told by Hodgson that he will not be a part of Roy Hodgson’s squad.
