Aston Villa plans to offer Ron Vlaar a new contract in hopes of keeping him at the club after a very impressive performance for the Dutch national team is said to have alerted Manchester United, Daily Star reports.
Although he missed a vital penalty in the semi-finals of the World Cup, the Villa defender produced some outstanding displays for his side.
Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal is believed to want the 29-year-old to follow him to Old Trafford in hopes of solving the squad’s current defensive problems after departures of long serving centre-backs Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
Apart from United, newly promoted side Queens Park Rangers are also said to be after the Dutch star who has only a year left on his current deal at Villa Park.
Interest for the player is currently on the rise due to his form in Brazil, especially from his recent showing in the semi-finals.
Ferdinand praised Vlaar on his display against Argentina before seeing Holland lose out 4-2 on penalties by saying it was the best performance he’s seen from a defender at the tournament.
