Paul Lambert’s next signing as new boss of Aston Villa could be out of favour Rennes playmaker Yacine Brahimi, according to The Sun.

The promising 22 year old Frenchman could be available for as little as £2.5 million, but is also subject to interest from Sochaux and Borussia Monchengladbach respectively.

Brahimi only featured 14 times as Rennes came 6th in Ligue 1 last season, and is eager to increase his chances of playing time so as to eventually break into the French national team.

When speaking of his relationship with Rennes, Brahimi stated; ‘our relationship is broken now and I have reached the point of no return.’ His eagerness to move away from Route de Lorient alongside Villa’s eagerness to sign him could be the perfect match for both.

There is also a possibility that the original deal could be done as a season long loan, with the possibility of a permanent move t oVilla Park next summer should the loan spell be a successful one.

The speculation comes in the same week that Paul Lambert has made his first signing as new Villa manager, in the form of Moroccan midfielder Karim El Ahmadi.
