Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has set his sights on Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez as he looks to replace Diego Costa, Express reports.
With very limited playing time, the Mexican forward failed to make an impression, seeing his role in the squad reduced to serving as a back-up to Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, and Danny Welbeck.
In addition, Hernandez has voiced his opinion over this matter throughout the previous season and could now be given a lifeline by the La Liga champions.
Simeone has already bought in a prominent goal scorer with the signing of Mario Manzukic from Bayern Munich, but is still looking for additional reinforcements as he aims to reproduce his side’s previous season form.
The 44-year-old manager also confirmed the news that he was considering a move for the United star.
“We speak to the sporting directors, we gave them the ideas on the type of players we want and then they get the players,” the Argentine said.
“With Javier Hernandez and plenty of other great players, anything is possible. We can’t close the door to anyone until the transfer window closes.
“He is a vertical player, great in one-on-one situations, he’s a great option for any team.”
