Manchester United have received another blow in their transfer plans as Barcelona’s Xavi looks set to sign with Qatar outfit Al-Arabi next season, Express reports.
Xavi has recently been tracked by United in the hopes that the Barca legend will help them get back into the Champions League next season.
The 34-year-old is reaching his twilight years and with the Red Devils not playing in Europe next term, seemed to be considering the option.
However former Chelsea star Dan Petrescu – who now manages Al-Arabi – has claimed that Xavi has a pre-contract agreement with his club.
“Xavi has signed a pre-contract with Al-Arabi,” he told Digisport.
“It looks likely that he’ll join but he does have offers from other clubs.
“I have spoken to him personally.
“The agent who brought me to Al-Arabi is in Brazil now but it’s the World Cup and it’s hard to get to him.
“But I’ve been speaking to Xavi on the phone and I asked him if he wanted to play with us and sacrifice for me.
“If you have a chance to sign Xavi, you do not muck around.
Additionally Cesc Fabregas – who recently joined Chelsea from Barcelona – stated that Xavi will leave the Nou Camp this summer.
“He and Puyol have decided to step aside, to be closer to their families, away from so much demand,” he said.
