Spanish giants Barcelona are set to make a big money summer move for Manchester City star David Silva, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

The Catalan club want Silva to be a direct replacement for long serving Spain legend Xavi who is coming to the end of his career which has seen him stay with Barcelona for the entirety.

Silva is impressing once again this season with City and the Premier League leaders would demand a massive fee for their playmaker, something that Barcelona expect.

The Spaniard started his career with Valencia and has been one of many big price sales from the southern club, but the La Liga strugglers have a percentage clause in their previous sale that entitles them to nearly 20% of the money should City sell.

City are struggling to comply with FIFA rules that set a limited on the club making a loss and so may be persuaded to at least enter negotiations over Silva, although they would rather lose less valuable players.
