Barcelona are set to make a bid for Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina in the summer to replace Victor Valdes, according to the Daily Mail.

Valdes has recently refused to even contemplate a new contract and so the La Liga leaders have made Reina their number one target.

Manchester United’s David De Gea was initially thought to be on the radar of Barcelona but it has emerged this week that a Spaniard will take over the position between the posts next season.

While Valdes still has two years left on his existing contract, Barcelona are willing to let him go in order to bring Reina to the Nou Camp this summer to fill what is widely thought as their weakest position.

Reina missed yesterday’s game with Norwich due to a broken nose but Brendan Rodgers is still adamant that he has one of the best goalkeepers in European football and is unlikely to sell at any price without a suitable replacement lined up with Swansea’s Michael Vorm a possibility.
