New Blackburn boss Henning Berg is ready to make a shock move for former Rovers teammate Brad Friedel, according to The Daily Mirror.

Reports suggest that Blackburn will offer Spurs £500,000 to sign the American on an 18 month contract, now that the veteran faces stiff competition from French stopper Hugo Lloris at White Hart Lane.

New Rovers boss Berg remains close friends with Friedel after the pair played together in Lancashire. Reports suggest that a coaching role at Ewood Park would also be offered to the 'keeper when his playing contract expires.

Southampton also remain interested in Friedel but it is thought that a return to his old stomping ground will be the desired move for the former Aston Villa and Liverpool star. Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has stated his desire to keep Friedel at the club, citing the player's experience as a great asset. However, pressure from Hugo Lloris demanding to play regular first team football may mean that Friedel is sacrificed to keep the peace in the Tottenham camp.

Henning Berg will be given considerable financial backing in January by Blackburn's owners. Along with Friedel, the Norwegian will also look to bring in a striker at Ewood Park as cover for Scotland star Jordan Rhodes.
