Manchester United target Xabi Alonso is closing in on a move to Bayern Munich, after he may be given a very limited role at current side Real Madrid due to the addition of their new summer signings, Daily Mail reports.
The 32-year-old Madrid star was recently linked with a move to Old Trafford as Louis van Gaal targeted Alonso hoping he could solve the midfield crisis in his squad.
However, it is believed that he would never join United out of his love for former club Liverpool, as he is now edging closer towards a move to join former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich.
The Bundesliga champions recently suffered a huge injury blow to Javi Martinez with the club also targeting Sami Khedira, but it is said that Guardiola favoured the £5million rated Spanish star over the younger German anchorman.
He is likely to be given a two-year contract with £150,000-a-week wages, with the switch likely to be confirmed in the coming days.
