Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has been targeted by Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, who have confirmed their interest in the player, Daily Star reports.

Lukaku’s two latest seasons – on loan with West Brom and Everton – have been incredibly successful as he scored 17 goals in 38 games with the Baggies and 16 in 33 for the Toffees.

Finally Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is ready to offer the powerful Belgian a long-term contract, but several clubs are interested in signing the former Anderlecht star.

And Wolfsburg manager Klaus Allofs confirmed that the club are looking to bring the 21-year-old to the Bundesliga.

“We are to sign a striker this summer and we have to wait and see which deal will be feasible in the end,” he told Wolfsburger Nachrichten.

When prompted specifically on whether Lukaku was his name of choice, he replied: “Of course, but we also have other names in mind.”

Lukaku is also looking to sort out his club’s future before the World Cup begins, stating: “It would be nice to get clarity beforehand, but that will not happen, so I’m completely focused on the World Cup,” he told Het Nieuwsblad.

“You know, I still have a two-year contract at the biggest club in England, because that’s Chelsea. So I still hope to play there. Chelsea have a good coach.”
