Chelsea and Manchester City may need to search elsewhere for a centre-back as top target Mehdi Benatia revealed that he will be staying at Roma, TalkSPORT reports.
The 27-year-old defender played a huge role in his side’s second place finish, one which gifted them with Champions League football.
His form attracted the attention of Europe’s elite clubs, with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, and Barcelona all monitoring his situation.
However, he recently told his club supporters that he will most likely be staying in Rome despite being heavily linked with a move to the English Premier League.
During one of his training sessions with his squad, he told reports on his intentions to remain where he is.
Benatia said: “Thanks for the affection. I think I will stay here.”
The Moroccan star featured in 32 Serie A matches the previous season, finding the net a total of five times.
