Chelsea are confident that the £27million transfer of Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas will be completed by the end of this week, Mirror reports.
The Blues now await Fabregas to undergo a medical in order to bring the former Arsenal captain back to the English Premier League.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes that the move is a done deal, and hopes to announce the capture before the weekend.
Fabregas, who was on £100,000-a-week at Barcelona, is set to almost double his salary when he signs with the London club.
This is a big blow to Gunners supporters, who were hoping to resign their Spanish midfielder.
Arsenal had a chance to activate a ‘first option’ clause in the deal that took him to Barca, but it seems Arsene Wenger had different transfer priorities.
It has been reported that Wenger is looking to sign Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic and Cardiff City defender Steven Caulker, rather than another attacking midfielder.
With Fabregas already deemed surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp, Arsenal’s stance opened the door for Chelsea to swoop in for the 27-year-old.
The Blues were desperate to sign a midfielder to replace the departing Frank Lampard, and will be extremely satisfied with the capture of Fabregas.
