Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was hoping that Fernando Torres joined Inter Milan instead of AC Milan, Express reports.
Torres made a £50million switch from Liverpool to Chelsea back in 2011, breaking the British transfer record but only managed to score 20 league goals in 110 appearances for the Blues.
And after slowly falling down the pecking order in the past three and a half years, the Spaniard joined Milan on a two-year loan deal with Mourinho insisting Torres needed a new challenge.
“With Fernando I have to say that as a person and as a professional there is no discussion,” Mourinho said.
“He is an exceptional guy and professional, but he needed a change. Now he is at Milan and his passion for football will motivate him.
“I am an Inter fan and would have preferred to see him in a Nerazzurri shirt, but because of the affection that we have for Fernando, I hope he does very well with the Rossoneri.”
Torres’ Chelsea team-mate Marco van Ginkel also made a move to the San Siro on a one-year loan during deadline day.
