Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has publicly admitted his interests in signing Barcelona star Cesc Fabregas, Sky Sports reports.
After constant speculation linking Fabregas with a Chelsea move, Mourinho has now revealed he is closely monitoring the Spaniard’s situation.
It is believed that Barcelona boss Luis Enrique does not see Fabregas as part of his first team plans and are willing to let him leave after three years at the Nou Camp.
Former club Arsenal – who had a first refusal clause on the midfielder – were not keen to bring back their ex-captain, opening the doors for Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea.
But the Blues seems to have the lead, with the Mourinho admitting to being a fan of the 27-year-old.
“I am interested in studying Fabregas’ situation,” he is quoted by the Portuguese media.
“I think he is anxious to leave Barcelona and motivated to return to England. I think that is clear.”
The Portuguese manager however does not see a deal being completed before the World Cup kicks off next week.
“Whether he is going to sign for Chelsea or for another club, that is not a subject to be discussed today, tomorrow or before the World Cup,” he said.
