Chelsea and England defender Gary Cahill is not getting too down hearted after last night’s defeat to Italy, as reported by the FA.

Cahill was left stranded as Mario Balotelli headed home Italy’s winner in the second half of their opening World Cup clash and the Three Lions now face an uphill battle to qualify for the knock out stages.

The 28 year old believes England can still progress and that last night was not a bad performance at all.

“We can take a lot of positives from that,” said the Chelsea defender.

“I thought we played well. We started the way we wanted to start and we knew they had players who wanted to get on the ball.

“They have some very good players but we started the game really brightly, did well and there wasn’t too much we did wrong.

“Unfortunately we were on the losing team, but two good teams went at it.”
