Chelsea have been given a boost in the chase to sign German midfielder Sami Khedira, after his agent denied there being any agreement with Arsenal, according to the Daily Mail.
Reports suggested that the Gunners agreed a £20million fee for Khedira, but weren’t willing to match the Real Madrid star’s £180,000-a-week wage demands.
But his agent, Jorg Neubauer, denied there were any discussions with Arsenal.
“We are not in talks with Arsenal,” he said.
“I don’t think a fee can have been agreed, otherwise I would have been told.”
This has opened the door for Chelsea, who manager Jose Mourinho is keen to make the 27-year-old his fourth major coup after Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa, and just recently Filipe Luis.
Mourinho had the chance to coach Khedira during his two years in charge of Real Madrid, and it is claimed the Portuguese boss tried to lure the World Cup winner to Chelsea previously.
With only year left on his contract, Neubauer added: “We are talking to Real Madrid about his contract, but nothing is close to being decided.
“Sami has just returned from the World Cup and has gone on holiday.”
