Southampton have placed a £30million price tag on their exciting young left back Luke Shaw, in a bid to see off interest from Chelsea, according to the Daily Star.
The Blues are reported to have had a bid worth £21million turned down by the Saints, who are desperate to keep one of their prized homegrown talents at St Mary’s.
But with the club in crisis following the resignation of chairman Nicola Cortese, Chelsea feel they could prise the teenager away.
Southampton have responded by demanding a fee of £30million, a price that would be a world record fee for a full back.
The current record of £29.5million was paid by Barcelona to secure the signing of Dani Alves in 2008.
Manchester United and Manchester City have also registered an interest in the 18-year-old, who is considered to be the natural England successor to Ashley Cole.
Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino yesterday warned he would quit the club if any stars were sold against his wishes, following Cortese’s resignation.
Pochettino has decided to stay at St Mary’s despite speculation surrounding his future, although he has refused to commit himself to the club beyond this summer, despite having a deal that runs until the end of next season.
