Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is set to make his return to the club as a player/coach with a potential one year deal which could be completed as soon as next week, Metro reports.
The Ivory Coast international became a free agent after playing out his Galatasaray contract and looks ready to complete his return to Stamford Bridge to serve as a back up to newcomer Diego Costa as well as be part of Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff.
With Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o both leaving the club, Fernando Torres will be the only replacement to the former Atletico Madrid attacker.
In additional, Romelu Lukaku, who is dubbed the next Drogba, could yet again be loaned out for more playing time and may not feature in Mourinho’s plans in the upcoming season.
The 36-year-old is a fan favourite, helping the Blues win the 2012 UEFA Champions League and has a great scoring record of 100 goals in 226 first team appearances since his arrival in 2004 until his departure in 2012.
