Chelsea are ready to hijack Liverpool’s move for FC Basel winger Mohamed Salah, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Reds are believed to be holding advanced talks with the Egyptian international, but now face competition for his signature.
Chelsea launched a rival bid of £11million last night, and are hopeful of hijacking the deal, following Juan Mata’s expected sale to Manchester United.
The Blues accepted a bid of £37million from Manchester United for the Spaniard, who is set to complete his shocking transfer within the next couple of days.
Salah impressed against Jose Mourinho’s men in the Champions League this season, scoring in both group stage games – including the winner in Switzerland.
The Swiss side are holding out for a figure closer to £16million for the 21-year-olf, although the Reds are reluctant to pay more than £12million.
Salah’s preference is believed to be Liverpool, as he reckons he will be given more first team opportunities.
Talks were understood to be ongoing last night, with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers keen to complete the deal for a player who has managed 17 goals in 27 games for Egypt.
