Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has come out to confirm that he will not be pursuing Mehdi Benatia from Roma, leaving Manchester United in pole position to sign the highly-rated centre-back, Daily Star reports.
Rumours suggest that the Blues have already made a £30million offer, but it looks as though they have pulled out of the race for his signature.
Mourinho revealed that he already has adequate back up in regards to his defenders, opting for a chance to use his more younger stars when the opportunity presents itself.
“We’re not interested,” he said during a press conference. “We have Cahill, Ivanovic and Zouma.
“We also want to integrate Christiansen into the first team with calm, who will train with us and also play some minutes in the League when it is possible.
“He will normally play with the youth team, but he will train with the first team.
“I think we are fine as we are, we are well set in defence.”
