Chelsea are close to resigning Atletico Madrid midfielder Tiago on a free transfer, Express reveals.
Tiago is looking likely to sign a two-year deal with the Blues, nine years after he departed the club back in 2005.
The Portuguese star is out of contract this summer and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who he worked with back during the 2004/2005 season, is keen on bringing over his former player.
Tiago is set to become the Blues third signing after the purchases of Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona and Diego Costa from Real Madrid.
Atletico defender Filipe Luis is also set to make a switch from the Blues, and if so will be Chelsea’s third player to arrive from Atletico this summer.
Mourinho sees Tiago as the perfect replacement for his recently departed veterans, which included Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, and Samuel Eto’o.
His experience will be a great addition to Mourinho’s young side, and the ‘Special One’ will hope that Tiago makes an immediate impact when the season kicks off in August.
