Chelsea striker Demba Ba could be relieved of his Stamford Bridge hell if the Blues can sign another forward in the January transfer window, according to the Evening Standard.

Jose Mourinho yesterday denied a bid had been made for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain although that deal is still a possibility, as is one for Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa.

Ba has struggled to fit in at Stamford Bridge, netting just three league goals since his £7.5million move from Newcastle this time last season.

West Ham are the frontrunners to sign the man that they brought to English football back in 2011 when he failed to help the Hammers stay up despite scoring seven times in 12 game .

Ba rejected a loan move to Upton Park in the summer and now Stoke, Sunderland, Fulham and Tottenham are reported to have joined the race for the Senegalese international.

Chelsea will only allow the 28 year old to leave if they find a replacement though as they would only have Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o as first team forwards.
