Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is set to make his switch to join Melbourne City on a short term deal before making a move to New York City FC when the MLS season kicks off in March, Mirror reports.
With Lampard admitting he will never play for another English Premier League side against Chelsea, he would not continue his England career despite being linked with a few other domestic sides.
The club’s leading scorer will not be alone as he joins former team-mate Damien Duff, who recently made his switch to Melbourne.
Former Australia international Mark Schwarzer, who is at serving as a backup to Petr Cech, revealed his conversation with Lampard regarding the move.
Schwarzer said: “All I can say is that he did ask me about Melbourne Heart. He did ask me what Melbourne was like and what Melbourne Heart was like.
“I said Sydney was the best place to live!! [Schwarzer is from there]. But I spoke very highly of Melbourne. I actually love Melbourne. It’s a great city. I told him how passionate in particular the Victorians are with their sport.
“There is huge potential in the game in Australia and it would be unbelieveable if he went to Australia. I said to him that he would love living there. its a great place to live.
“He walked away with that and I know what he’s like. So we will see.”
