Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse believes Reds legend Steven Gerrard will enjoy a successful managerial career in the future, as he recalled famous moments from the 2005 Champions League final.

In Istanbul, Liverpool were famously trailing AC Milan by three-goals at half-time before clawing back level in the second-half and lifting Europe's most prestigious crown for the fifth time in their history.

Cisse, a member of the Champions League winning squad and now working as a DJ, believes Gerrard showed his managerial prowess at half-time during that game as he inspired Liverpool into the greatest comeback in European history.

Speaking to The Mirror, Cisse said:

'It's in his DNA, he was talking to us, trying to make us feel like we could give our best. I think he will be a great manager. I don't know if that's what he wants to do, but he's at the academy and it's a great start for him and I see him as a manager.'

Gerrard returned to Liverpool earlier this year to take up a coaching role with the Reds after ending his playing days in the United States with LA Galaxy and the details of his team-talk at half-time in 2005's Champions League final are particularly incredible, with Cisse adding:

'He asked everyone to leave, including Rafa [Benitez, manager], he just asked to be with the players.  That's what gave us the power to go and win the game. You need to have some balls to do this.'

Whether Gerrard will opt to go down the managerial route remains to be seen but there can be no denying that he has the credentials to be successful if he does pursue that career in the future.
