James Milner scored the winner as Manchester City clawed their way back from 2-0 to beat Bayern Munich 2-3 at the Allianz Arena in the Champions League.

Former City man Jerome Boateng failed to clear a Jesus Navas cross on 62 minutes, allowing Milner to collect the ball and send it past Munich keeper Manuel Neuer.

Both teams finished with 15 points from six matches in Group D, but it was the home side that finished at the top of the Group thanks to their 3-1 win in Manchester back in October.

Bayern started strongly and it didn’t take long until Thomas Mueller and Mario Goetze benefited from some shoddy defending to put the home side 2-9 up within 12 minutes. The returning David Silva managed to get City back into the game after 28 minutes when he slotted home from close range, and then a Aleksandar Kolarov penalty took them level.

Manager Reaction: Manuel Pellegrini

“We’re slightly disappointed we did not finish top of the group. But to be slightly disappointed at beating Bayern Munich in their own ground is pretty pleasing.”

15 POINTS IS BETTER THAN MOST OF THE GROUPE WINNER’S. AND BEATING THE CHAMPIONS ON THERE OWN TURF WITH HALF THE TEAM OUT SAYS A LOT
